After a long hot day of walking we arrived in San Juan De Ortega. There really wasn't anything else there except for the refugio (which was pretty basic), a few homes and a bar. We had trouble understanding the fellow running the refugio, so a woman we had met from Brazil helped us out. We were told the refugio was full as was the next one 6km down the road, but we could take a cold shower if we liked and sleep on one of the tables.

Tim and I had planned to take the train the next day from Burgos to Leon anyway, as we thought we'd run out of time to get to Santiago, so we decided to try to catch the train that night. We split a cab ride to Burgos with some other pilgrims, caught two trains, and ended up in Leon at 11:30 pm that night where we treated ourselves to a nice hotel room.

We saw many of the people we had been walking with at San Juan, and it was hard to say goodbye to them. L->R is Raymond, Joanne, Tim, Ryan, Victor and Vernonica, and Simone. All these people are very cool, and I hope we can stay in touch with at least some of them.

Pics from part II are available here.
