Another view on the way up - gorgeous, isn't it? This first day of walking was one of the highlights of the trip for me because it was so beautiful and we were in the mountains - yet it was so different from a typical hike in the Rockies.

The people who issued us our credentials in St. Jean also gave us a description of this first day of the walk. They indicated we should refill our water bottles at the fountain after this point because water may not be available until Roncevalles. Unfortunately the fountain was broken and this caused me some dismay.
