Not wanting to ruin my 1/2 day off by careering down the snow into the gully, we climbed up to the left of it. We later discovered it would have been better to go up via the right side. Oh well. On the way up we met a couple descending - if you squint you can see them by the green patch near the bottom third of the pic. Tim is midway between them and the bottom of this pic.
